The event brought together national and sub-regional stakeholders from across Africa to reflect and agree on the role of the energy transition in Africa's response to the current crisis and beyond, in order to achieve sustainable development and climate objectives.

The permanent representatives of the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) to the United Nations gathered virtually to participate in the briefing on Accelerating Sustainable COVID-19 Recovery with Renewable Energy. 

The third IRENA Innovation Week – a virtual gathering of leading policy makers, innovators, developers and investors from across IRENA’s diverse global membership – convened to explore how systemic innovative solutions can support the use of renewables in the energy-end-use sectors of buildings, transport & industry.

The side event gathered public and private stakeholders to discuss key opportunities and challenges in scaling up green hydrogen, focusing on policies for the supply side of green hydrogen.

The meeting aimed to bring together IRENA Members and other key stakeholders to discuss solutions and strategies in the operation of energy systems with a high share of renewable energies.

As part of the Global Science, Technology and Innovation Conference (G-STIC), IRENA held a session on consumer-led innovations in the global power sector. The session provided first-hand information on leading innovations that support the power sector’s transformation towards a more decentralised and renewable based system, with consumers are at the center.

The capacity building event contributed to the improvement of PPAs (Power Purchase Agreements) in the region and enhanced the capability of local utilities and regulators to design bankable contracts, with the final goal of contributing to effective commitment of private capital to the deployment of renewable energy projects in SIDS of the Pacific.

This event will feature think tanks as well as renewable energy development agencies, and describing the India’s power sector water risks assessment targeting governments and investors. In addition, the session will highlight how advancing cooling technology and shifting power mix towards more solar PV and wind could help the sector’s dependency on water while sustaining its growth in energy demand.

The workshop on ‘Sharing experiences in applying innovative solutions to achieve 100% renewable power systems’ was held online and connected representatives from countries to explore the most disruptive innovations enabling the rapid uptake of a high share of variable renewables in power systems by mid-century

Two closed meetings were held with prospective members of the Long-term Energy Scenarios Network (LTES Network), in order to discuss the membership process, its benefits and opportunities to participate in upcoming events.

IRENA brought together global leaders and experts discussed the importance of long-term energy scenarios (LTES) in guiding ambitious climate objectives, and how to better align LTES with the Paris agreement through LT-LEDS.

The webinar will explore the efforts in powering healthcare facilities, especially as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The speakers will highlight the case studies and lessons learnt from some of the healthcare electrification projects. 

Following the 2019’s edition of IRENA’s Renewable Power Generation Costs report, this webinar shared key takeaways from this new body of work and provided insights into global cost trends for renewable power and what has driven their cost declines in 2019.
