Innovation for Enabling an Accelerated Deployment of Renewable Energy Technologies
On 27 June, the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) conducted a workshop in Bonn, Germany, entitled “Innovation for Enabling an Accelerated Deployment of Renewable Energy Technologies”. Held in parallel to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Technology Executive Committee Meeting, the workshop highlighted the role of technological innovation and featured IRENA’s latest work in this field for policy makers and other stakeholders involved in the development of a Technology Mechanism to mitigate climate change. IRENA’s recent studies provide a better understanding of how the deployment of renewable energy technologies can be fostered by an the appropriate use of innovation instruments, including standardisation and quality assurance, intellectual property rights, technology adaptation and cooperative research, development and demonstration.
