The High-Level Dialogue organised by AOSIS and IRENA shared insights on the impact of the current crisis on energy in SIDS, highlighting country experiences, exploring the role of financial institutions and identifying prospects for renewable energy in the near and medium term.
A five-day workshop, jointly organised by the Ministry of the Environment of Japan and IRENA, aims to support the development of bankable project proposals to access climate finance, especially from the GCF, by various stakeholders, including Regional and National Direct AEs from SIDS.
The capacity building event contributed to the improvement of PPAs (Power Purchase Agreements) in the region and enhanced the capability of local utilities and regulators to design bankable contracts, with the final goal of contributing to effective commitment of private capital to the deployment of renewable energy projects in SIDS of the Pacific.

MOEJ and IRENA organised a three-day training program to support the development of project proposals to access climate finance by SIDS stakeholders through various entities including local banks and climate finance entities.
The SIDS Lighthouses Initiative was launched at the 2014 UN Climate Summit to support Small Island Developing States (SIDS) energy system transformation and facilitate co-ordinated support through partnerships with public, private, intergovernmental, and non-governmental stakeholder organisations. The Initiative, co-ordinated by IRENA, brings together 36 SIDS and 21 development partners, and takes a holistic approach that considers all relevant elements from policy and market frameworks, through technology options to capacity building.
