Workshop on capacity building for preparation of bankable concept notes for the Green Climate Fund

The Ministry of the Environment of Japan (MOEJ) and IRENA co-organised a Workshop on Capacity Building for Preparation of Bankable Concept Notes for Green Climate Fund (GCF) in January 2019, where the objectives were to improve the capacity of Accredited Entities (AEs) as well as private and public financial institutions from SIDS for preparing concept notes for the GCF.

Based on the results of this event, the need for continuous capacity building for AEs and governments’ officials on accessing the available financing options by proposing bankable projects has been identified. For this purpose, MOEJ and IRENA in continuation for their collaboration to address the needs of SIDS in growing their capacity in climate finance, organised a five-day workshop to support the development of bankable project proposals to access climate finance, especially from the GCF, by various stakeholders, including Regional and National Direct AEs from SIDS.

The workshop aimed to:

  • Promote the understanding of how technologies can support low-carbon development in SIDS while utilizing funding from the GCF;
  • Improve the capacity of AEs, as well as relevant government officials from SIDS for preparing concept notes for the GCF; Develop and review draft concept notes for renewable energy projects and/or cross-cutting projects for submission to the GCF;
  • Encourage the dialogue between participants and experts in GCF and/or climate finance.
