IRENA supports the establishment of a regional certification scheme for off-grid solar PV installers in West Africa, to be implemented in all members of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

This virtual event aimed to encourage all governments of the region towards more ambitious climate action driven by energy transition.


The Clean Energy Ministerial and Mission Innovation organizations virtual meetings brought together global leaders, ministers and experts to discuss renewable energy future.

This side-event at the Global SDG 7 Conference in Bangkok, marked the regional launch of IRENA's Southeast Asia Market Analysis, and presented its findings. A panel discussed measures to scale renewable energy deployment to meet national and regional goals, and targets associated with SDG 7.

This event will feature think tanks as well as renewable energy development agencies, and describing the India’s power sector water risks assessment targeting governments and investors. In addition, the session will highlight how advancing cooling technology and shifting power mix towards more solar PV and wind could help the sector’s dependency on water while sustaining its growth in energy demand.


This high-level event hosted by the Group of Friends of Sustainable Energy (Norway, Denmark, Ethiopia and Pakistan) and supported by SDG 7 custodians agencies, will present findings of the report as well as of the Policy Briefs by the SDG 7 Technical Advisory Group.

The Sierra Leone Ministry of Energy and IRENA held the first two-week country training course to further familiarize the national working team.

In the framework of the implementation of the West Africa Clean Energy Corridor (WACEC), which was validated, adopted and endorsed by the countries of the West Africa region in 2016 – 2017, IRENA has launched a capacity building programme in the region in collaboration with relevant stakeholders of the ECOWAS power sector (ECREEE, WAPP, ERERA and GIZ).
