Energy Planning Capacity Building Sierra Leone — National training course 1: Model Development
From 28 May – 8 June 2018, the Sierra Leone Ministry of Energy and IRENA held the first two-week country training course to further familiarize the national working team – consisting of energy planning professionals from, among others, the Ministry of Energy, EGTC, EDSA, EPA and various universities - with the SPLAT model application for Sierra Leone (SPLAT-SL) and with developing energy modelling scenarios. More specifically, the training course focused on (1) reviewing the data in the SPLAT-SL model, (2) completing relevant updates of the model, (3) advancing the expansion of the SPLAT-SL to non-power sectors, and (4) defining the scenarios to be analyzed in the national energy master plan.
The national working team achieved considerable progress during the two-week country training; the results were presented to the programme steering committee, that consists of senior managers from all institutions represented in the working team. As next step, the national working team continued to populate the SPLAT-SL model and identify suggested national planning scenarios. The next training activity under this Programme was the second two-week country training course (late August 2018).
