The 42nd edition of the International Energy Workshop (IEW) will be hosted by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) in Bonn, Germany, on 26-28 June, 2024.
Jointly organised by IRENA and Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan, the workshop supported the use of international best practice in long-term energy planning, and further the Agency’s efforts under the Astana Communique on Accelerating the Uptake of Renewables in Central Asia.
The Sierra Leone Ministry of Energy and IRENA held the first two-week country training course to further familiarize the national working team.
As part of its engagement in Latin America IRENA undertook the Renewables Readiness Assessment (RRA) Panama. A high-level event took place in Panama City for the launch of the report, which included government officials from various institutions, and representatives from the private sector, industry and academia.

The RRA Validation workshop brought together renewable energy stakeholders in Azerbaijan to validate the recommendations of the draft RRA report.
As part of the RRA Moldova process, a Validation Workshop was jointly organized by IRENA and the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure on 15 October 2018 in Chisinau.
The SIDS Lighthouses Initiative was launched at the 2014 UN Climate Summit to support Small Island Developing States (SIDS) energy system transformation and facilitate co-ordinated support through partnerships with public, private, intergovernmental, and non-governmental stakeholder organisations. The Initiative, co-ordinated by IRENA, brings together 36 SIDS and 21 development partners, and takes a holistic approach that considers all relevant elements from policy and market frameworks, through technology options to capacity building.
IRENA, in close collaboration with the League of Arab States (LAS) and Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE) will be holding a five-day training on “Addressing Variability of Renewable Energy Sources in Long-term Energy Planning”.
This workshop presented and discussed issues with Long-term Energy Scenarios (LTES) for a clean energy transition, with a segment focused on drafting recommendations for the CEM ministerial meeting in May 2019.
IRENA participated in the Latin America and Caribbean Climate Week (LACCW) in Salvador, Brazil. Regional Climate Weeks serve as a critical stepping stone to the UN Secretary General’s Climate Summit 2019 and gathers diverse stakeholders in the public and private sectors around a common goal of addressing climate change.
IRENA organised a workshop on 12-13 December in Bonn, inviting government practitioners, experts, and researchers to discuss the current use of geospatial information in long-term energy planning.

The Republic of Sierra Leone’s government and IRENA held the second two-week training course on strategic long-term energy planning in Freetown that focused on finalising the SPLAT-SL model and energy planning scenarios.
