IRENA Legislators Forum

About

The IRENA Legislators Forum brings together a growing network of parliamentarians with an interest in accelerating renewable energy uptake.

The event, held in conjunction with the annual IRENA Assembly, presents a unique opportunity for legislators from all over the world to engage with experts and share best practices on all aspects of the transition to renewable energy.

Forum participants are encouraged to engage with other key stakeholders, including representatives from the private sector. This engagement aims to boost public–private dialogue on the opportunities for investment and barriers encountered in rapidly growing renewable energy markets.

In addition to the various sessions on the agenda, targeted meetings with IRENA experts and other legislators allow for more detailed discussions on regional trends, challenges and opportunities.

2022 IRENA Legislators Forum

The 2022 IRENA Legislators Forum took place at a time when the imperative to shift to a sustainable, resilient and inclusive energy system has never been stronger. The lack of affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy exerts a significant toll on people’s economic opportunities, health and well-being, and ability to access public services, with women and children disproportionately impacted.

Held under the overarching theme “Parliamentary and regulatory actions to drive national energy transition policies: From commitment to action”, 2022’s forum presented a timely opportunity for inclusive and diverse discussion on the actions that legislators can take to support countries to shift their energy transition into the phase of implementing their of national and international commitments.
