Demand stimulation policies: Phase out of ICE Vehicles
Heavy-duty trucks
Current status of implementation and existing gaps
To increase demand for zero-emission trucks, some governments have started committing to a 100% phase-out of internal combustion engine medium- and heavy-duty trucks in the long term.
Examples and initiatives
Eight governments have set ambitious internal combustion engine truck phase-out targets, aiming for at least 40% of all sales to be electric trucks by 2050 (ICCT, 2024).
