Today, four states joined IRENA. On behalf of the Sultanate of Oman, the Ambassador of Oman in Germany, H.E. Khalifa Ali Issa Al Harthy, signed the Statute. IRENA´s Founding Treaty was also signed by Mr. Henri Dimi, Chargé d´Affaires a.i. of the Embassy of the Republic of Congo in Germany. Furthermore, the Ambassador of Pakistan in Germany, H. E. Shahid Ahmad Kamal, signed for the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. Finally, H.E. Claude Joel Giordan, Ambassador of Monaco in Germany, signed the Statute on behalf of the Principality of Monaco. Mr. Thomas Meister, Head of Division for International Energy Policy at the German Federal Foreign Office, was present for the signings.
The signings prove that more and more countries are joining in order to participate in the decision-making process regarding IRENA’s future development. This has been especially the case leading up to the second session of the Preparatory Commission, which will be held at the end of June 2009, because the interim seat and the Interim Director-General will be elected. Furthermore, the numerous signings exemplify the world demand for a strengthened use of renewable energy technology.
