Statement on Misuse of IRENA name and logo in Zambia

Newsletter

The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) would like to address the misuse of its name and logo in connection with a fraudulent program in Zambia awarding grants under a call for proposals – REF: SOLAR POWER GRANTS PROGRAM. This scam is claimed to be in association with Zambia’s Ministry of Energy and the World Bank.

IRENA is not associated with any such solar grant program in Zambia or anywhere in the world. In addition, the Agency does not have, and has never had, an office in Kenya. Furthermore, the email address irenaafrica@gmail.com does not belong to IRENA and is forged.

IRENA is an intergovernmental organisation that works with policy makers to establish the regulatory frameworks necessary to scale up renewable energy. In line with IRENA’s Statute, membership is open to states only.
