Renewables Readiness Assessment – Honduras

The Renewables Readiness Assessment (RRA) is a country-led consultative process facilitated by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) to identify appropriate policy and regulatory choices to support the transition towards renewable energy in all energy sector applications. Initiated by the Honduran Energy Secretariat, the RRA process was led by the General Directorate of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency in collaboration with all departments of the Secretary.

The RRA has identified main challenges hindering the development of the sector and outlined a series of recommendations to help strengthen the energy institutions and governance; enhance the energy policy and regulatory framework for the renewable energy sector; promote sustainable development and energy efficiency; strengthen the electricity industry, increase investments in renewable energy technologies and infrastructure; and reinforce institutional and human capacities.

The in-person launch event brought together government officials and regional partners to serve as a platform to address several important issues related to renewable energy development in Honduras and promote the implementation of the RRA recommendations.

The session built on the results of the IRENA analysis, including the linkages between the six key thematic areas that will be implemented after the presentation of the RRA.
