IRENA at SEforAll Forum 2022

As one of the custodians of the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 7 on energy, IRENA will prominently participate in the 2022 Sustainable Energy for All Forum. The event takes place from 17-19 of May 2022 in Kigali, Rwanda and serves as a platform to accelerate progress towards the delivery of “access to affordable, reliable, sustainable ad modern energy for all”.

IRENA’s participation aims at identifying energy transition solutions to achieve SDG7. IRENA’s Deputy Director-General Gauri Singh will represent the Agency in high-level meetings. IRENA will also preview the “2022 Tracking SDG7: The Energy Progress Report” due in June, showing new findings and a guide on international co-operation and policymaking to achieve universal, sustainable energy access by 2030.

IRENA’s participation in the SEforAll Forum 2022 agenda:

  • Financing Renewable Energy for the Energy Transition”, 18th May: Organised by IRENA and the Global Wind Energy Council, the panel explores the enabling policy frameworks to develop a pipeline of bankable projects for grid renewables in developing countries to support affordable electricity access, economic growth and climate targets.
  • The Road to Net Zero”, 18th May: In collaboration between IRENA and the IEA, this session examines near-term opportunities in emerging and developing economies and the role of international collaboration offer catalytic power to achieve net zero before 2030.
  • Renewable Energy Opportunities in UN Peacekeeping Settings”, 19th May: This event co-hosted by the UN Department of Operational Support, IRENA, and the UAE discusses the challenges and investment opportunities that exist around the UN peacekeeping transition to renewable energy in the context of the Energy Compact.
