IRENA Youth Talk
The Importance of International Cooperation to Address Climate Change

In its third edition, the Energy Transition Heroes webinar series, organized under the IRENA Youth Talk umbrella, in collaboration with Enel Foundation, focused on the role of youth in international cooperation on energy and climate.

As part of the “All4Climate” initiative, launched by the Italian Ministry for Ecological Transition to foster proactive climate dialogue, and in the run-up to COP26 (Glasgow, November 1-12, 2021), the Youth Talk explored the theme “The importance of international cooperation to address climate change: empowering the role of youth”.

The climate crisis is a global issue that requires global action. By working together, nations can accelerate progress to limit rising temperatures to 1.5 ℃ and achieve net zero emissions globally by mid-century.

To live up to the ambitious goals of COP26, however, it is also necessary to recognise the inevitable role that the youth play in achieving them. Young people have played a pivotal role in bringing urgency to the international public debate on climate. Since the future belongs to the youth, it is their right to be engaged as the global community shapes it.

The talk aimed to explore with youth leaders from across the globe how international cooperation can achieve climate and sustainable development objectives, providing a valuable opportunity for young people to actively contribute to the debate of Pre-COP Youth Event, Pre-COP26, and COP26 to be held in autumn 2021.

The virtual event took place on 9 September 2021 and was conducted in English with simultaneous interpretation in Arabic, French, and Spanish.
