Solar PV Technical Training Workshop — ECOWAS Renewable Energy Entrepreneurship Support

Together with the ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) and the Centre for Renewable Energy and Industrial Maintenance (CERMI), IRENA supported the organisation of a technical training workshop for ECOWAS-based renewable energy entrepreneurs, to address requests for assistance that the entrepreneurs have put forward in the annual call for applications under the ECOWAS Renewable Energy Entrepreneurship Support Facility.

The training workshop convened 23 entrepreneurs from 12 West African countries to address technical issues of solar PV system dimensioning, installation, operation and management as well as discuss different business models for PV mini-grids. The second half of the workshop was also attended by financial institution representatives in order to strengthen their technical understanding of solar PV systems. This provided a platform for financial institutions to directly communicate with entrepreneurs and guide the entrepreneurs in developing their project proposals to bankable levels.
