As of 1st December, Dr Mike Enskat assumes the role of Director of the International Renewable Energy Agencies’ Innovation and Technology Centre (IITC) in Bonn. In his new capacity, Mr Enskat will lead and oversee IITC’s strategy and programmatic work.

Dr Enskat previously served at the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) as Head of the Infrastructure Section within GIZ’s Department for Sectoral and Global Programmes. With his background in international development, he brings more than 20 years of experience across energy, water, mobility, and green hydrogen - building global partnerships and programmes.

Within IRENA’s overall mission to promote the widespread and increased adoption of renewable energy, the IITC in Germany supports this mission by advising the Agency’s 171 members in technologies and energy transition roadmaps, power system transformation, energy planning, cost and markets, technical assistance and capacity building.

The Centre has been at the forefront of outlining how renewable technologies have become the main pillar of the global energy transition, tracking the significant cost reduction of renewable technologies and innovation trends year-on-year.

IRENA’s Bonn office also hosts the biennial “Innovation Week” and supports the global discourse through fora like G7 and the Clean Energy Ministerial/Mission Innovation.
