Webinar: Expanding cost studies and the IRENA Renewable Costing Alliance

The business case for increasing renewable energy investments depends on gathering more – and more accurate – data on the costs and performance of different technologies in various locations around the world. The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) is hosting webinars in late May on its expanding research into renewable energy costs, with the aim of informing the private sector and advising companies on how to contribute to these studies.

The online discussions, arranged by the IRENA Business Forum to suit different time zones on 28, 29 and 30 May, will introduce participants to IRENA’s costing analysis to date, with a look ahead to future studies. In-depth examination will uncover the rationale and goals of costing work, methodological issues and boundaries, and data collection challenges.

Open to interested participants, the webinars will provide insights on on-going research into renewable energy costs ahead of the next annual edition of the IRENA’s study, Renewable Power Generation Costs.

The sessions will end by exploring how the IRENA Renewable Costing Alliance can add value to the industry.

IRENA promotes the widespread adoption and sustainable use of all forms of renewable energy, including bioenergy, geothermal, hydropower, ocean, solar and wind energy in the pursuit of sustainable development, energy access, energy security and low-carbon economic growth and prosperity. An intergovernmental organisation formally established in 2011 and currently including 160 members or participating states, IRENA supports countries in their transition to a sustainable energy future and serves as the principal platform for international cooperation, a centre of excellence, and a repository of policy, technology, resource and financial knowledge on renewable energy.

The IRENA Business Forum webinars will take place over three days, 28–30 May, and are scheduled from noon to 1:15pm for three different regions. 

28 May – Asia and Oceania will begin at noon (GMT+10:00)

29 May – Americas and Caribbean begins at noon (GMT-5:00)

30 May – Europe, Middle East and Africa will be begin at noon (GMT+01:00)
