Official opening of the IRENA Innovation and Technology Centre (IITC), Bonn

The official opening of the IRENA Innovation and Technology Center (IITC) will take place on 7 October 2011 in Bonn, Germany.

Since its founding conference in 2009, IRENA has come to represent a unique international platform to promote the exchange of policies and accelerate the deployment of renewable energy to meet the challenge of energy access, energy security and sustainable development.

IRENA is headquartered in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Within IRENA´s overall mission to promote the widespread and increased adoption of renewable energy, its Innovation and Technology Centre (IITC) in Bonn supports this mission by creating a framework for technology support and for the work on cost reduction potentials and policies to support innovation and the wider use of standards. IRENA´s presence in Bonn will positively contribute to, as well as benefit from, the vast network of international entities already based in Bonn.

Before the opening events, the IITC will host a workshop on renewable energy competitiveness and innovation on 6 October 2011.
