Marianne Osterkorn and Adnan Amin sign a Memorandum of Understanding

The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP) moved forward in strengthening their good working relationship and building a strategic partnership by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The MoU defines a general framework for cooperation within which both organisations can explore and implement concrete activities over the next three years.

“This document really formalises the working relationship between the two organisations,” notes Marianne Osterkorn, REEEP’s Director General, “and it lays out a clear roster of areas where we can collaborate productively.  REEEP has a strong track record of targeted interventions on the ground, and solid regional presence, so it is good to be complementing each other’s strengths.”

Marianne Osterkorn and Adnan Amin, Director-General of IRENA, have engaged in a fruitful dialogue over the past months where the idea of a partnership between the two organisations took shape. Various activities have already taken place, including a joint booth at the 2011 World Future Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi, along with REN21 and IISD.

Adnan Amin stated that “IRENA strives to become an inclusive platform upon which governments, scientists, academia, investors and civil society can work together to build a framework to promote renewable energy. Joining forces with REEEP which has a wide membership is a first step in this direction.”

The MoU confirms that IRENA and REEEP will exchange information, expertise and viewpoints in order to realise potential synergies and enhance public dialogue, while also striving to implement common positions that will promote the widespread and increased adoption of renewable energy.
