Preparatory Commission starts working

The Preparatory Commission assembled for its first session the day after the Founding Conference, 27 January 2009. The Preparatory Commission consists of IRENA’s Signatory States and acts as the interim body during the founding period. In the course of the first meeting the Commission discussed the next steps for IRENA. It decided to establish a Committee for the selection of the Interim Director-General, chaired by Lithuania, and a Committee for the selection of the interim headquarters, chaired by the Republic of Korea. Moreover, to assist the Commission in preparing its next session, an Administrative Committee was founded. Germany is chairing this Committee. The second session of the preparatory commission will be hosted by Egypt, June 2009.
