Virtual Dialogue on Energy Transition and Carbon Markets – Perspectives from countries and global partnerships

IRENA in collaboration with the Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) will host an online event “Virtual Dialogue on Energy Transition and Carbon Markets: Perspectives from countries and global partnerships” on Tuesday, 3 June 2025, 18:00-19:30 Gulf Standard Time (GST).

Market-based instruments, including the Paris Agreement’s Article 6 market mechanisms, are increasingly important for advancing climate action for implementing Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). With the conclusion of the guidance for Articles 6.4, or Paris Agreement Crediting Mechanisms (PACM), as an outcome of COP29, countries are increasingly exploring Article 6 implementation.

The Virtual Dialogue aims to serve as a platform to convene the governments and Article 6 stakeholders to discuss renewables in carbon markets. The agenda includes scene-setting presentations on the carbon market landscape, perspectives on Article 6.2 cooperative partnerships and Article 6 project host countries. Participants are also invited to provide statements regarding their plans and expectations for the utilisation of the market-based instruments.

The session is part of the series of Virtual Dialogues that IRENA is undertaking at regional level. While this session is intended to take place in the America/Africa/Europe time zone, governments and Article 6 stakeholders beyond these regions are also encouraged to engage.

This session is by invitation only.
