Validation Workshop: Energy Transition Assessment of Papua New Guinea

The National Energy Authority of Papua New Guinea, with the support of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) through the SIDS Lighthouses Initiative, is undertaking a country-led Energy Transition Assessment to evaluate the current landscape for renewable energy development and identify strategic actions to accelerate the national energy transition.

Following National Expert Consultations held in February 2025, a draft report was developed to reflect the country’s priorities, barriers, and actionable strategies across five thematic areas:

  1. Rural Electrification
  2. Resource Assessment and Prioritisation
  3. Clean Cooking
  4. Energy Efficiency
  5. Sustainable Transport

The Validation Workshop aims to reconvene key stakeholders to review, refine, and endorse the assessment findings. It will serve as a platform to build consensus on strategic actions, identify opportunities for investment and technical support, and strengthen coordination across the energy sector. The final Energy Transition Assessment is expected to inform and guide the Government of Papua New Guinea’s strategic planning and implementation efforts toward a sustainable, resilient, and inclusive energy future.

Participation in this event is by invitation only.
