1st Energy Planning Summit
The 1st Energy Planning Summit will take place from 3 to 4 June 2025 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, launching the Global Coalition for Energy Planning (GCEP). Emerging from Brazil’s 2024 G20 presidency, this Coalition aims to foster transparent, evidence‑based planning to close the investment gap in the clean‑energy transition, particularly in emerging markets and developing economies. The Brazilian government is collaborating with the incoming GCEP Secretariat, IRENA, to organise this Summit with the aim to launch the Coalition and advance the global energy planning cooperation. The Summit will convene senior finance and planning officials to advance dialogue through robust collaboration and inclusive participation.
Guided by five core principles: promoting transparent energy planning, facilitating knowledge exchange, catalysing investments, encouraging national ownership, and leveraging existing partnerships, the two‑day programme pairs insights from IRENA and other key organisations with in‑depth sessions. These sessions will advance dialogue between stakeholders, showcase finance mechanisms, and present institutional models that convert long‑term scenarios into bankable pipelines.
Expected outcomes include consensus on priority workstreams, a roadmap for coordinated thematic engagement, and an initial mapping of stakeholders ready to cooperate. By demonstrating how robust planning reduces risk and attracts capital, the Summit aims to strengthen political commitment to integrate energy planning into national and international agendas.
