Workshop: Pre-feasibility site assessments for solar PTC projects in Zimbabwe
On July 14, 2025, the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) will organise a virtual capacity development workshop on pre-feasibility site assessments for solar parabolic trough collectors (PTC) projects in Zimbabwe.
The Site Assessment developed by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) aims to support countries in finding financially viable sites for solar (photovoltaic - PV, parabolic trough collector - PTC) and wind (offshore and onshore) project development. It intends to inform project planning, boost local capacity, and assist in achieving the commitments of the nationally determined contributions (NDCs).
IRENA, with support from the Danish Government, has conducted pre-feasibility site assessment on 10 solar PTC sites in Zimbabwe with prospective installed capacity of 1.8 GW under the Accelerated Partnership for Renewables in Africa (APRA).
The analysis was carried out through a rigorous, consultative process with official representatives from the Zimbabwe Electricity Regulatory Authority (ZERA) and the Ministry of Energy and Power Development, ensuring alignment with the local context.
The event will convene representatives from government ministries, regulatory authority, and other stakeholders.
The workshop will discuss the methodology and results of site assessment conducted on 10 solar PTC sites in Zimbabwe and will also serve as consultative opportunity with stakeholders from government agencies in the country. The workshop will conclude with an open Q&A session.
Countries interested in the pre-feasibility site assessment can contact IRENA (GARE@irena.org).
The event is by invitation only.
