Workshop: Investment opportunities for Utility-scale solar and wind areas: Georgia

On July 15, 2025, the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) will organise a virtual capacity development workshop following the publication of IRENA’s report Investment Opportunities for Utility-Scale Solar and Wind Areas – Georgia.

The Zoning Assessment developed by IRENA aims to support the member countries in identifying the promising zones for utility-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) and wind energy projects. These zones are selected based on their high investment potential and are intended to inform national energy generation and transmission master plans.

IRENA, with support from the Danish Government, has estimated the maximum development potential for Georgia at approximately 87 gigawatts (GW) for solar PV and 5.4 GW for onshore wind.

The analysis was carried out through a rigorous, interactive process involving official representatives from the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia (MoESD) and the Georgian State Electrosystem (GSE), ensuring alignment with the local context.

The event will convene around 42 participants, including high-level representatives from government ministries, power utilities, development partners, financial institutions, the private sector, civil society, and other stakeholders engaged in the zoning analysis.

The workshop will present the methodology used in the assessment and demonstrate how government representatives, investors, and project developers can access and explore the results through the report and the IRENA Global Atlas. The workshop will conclude with an open Q&A session.

Countries interested in the zoning assessment can contact IRENA (GARE@irena.org) to identify high-potential areas for utility-scale solar PV and onshore wind projects, along with their associated techno-economic parameters.

The event is by invitation only.
