Regional Consultation Workshop for Middle East and North Africa on Framework strategy and action plans to achieve Tripling Renewable Energy Commitment

The webinar titled “Regional Consultation Workshop for Middle East and North Africa on Framework strategy and action plans to achieve Tripling Renewable Energy Commitment” will be organized by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) with the support of the German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK). The webinar will be held on the 4th of November 2024.

IRENA is hosting this regional consultation workshop for MENA countries to present the findings of the tracking report and engage with government representatives on the necessary actions to keep countries on track toward meeting their renewable energy targets. The outcomes of this workshop will serve as the basis for IRENA’s -country-specific support, helping countries to develop national strategies and action plans that provide a strategic framework for the deployment of renewable power. These efforts align with the goal of tripling renewable energy capacity by 2030, as agreed in the UAE Consensus at COP28.

This workshop intends to hold regional-level consultations on how the countries of the MENA region could benefit from the tracking report to advance their energy transition strategies and plans. During the workshop, experts from IRENA will present strategies and associated milestones to meet the Tripling RE pledge by 2030 and reinforce how these commitments can be reflected in the updated NDCs to be submitted by Q1 2025. The Regional Consultation will serve as an opportunity for senior government officials to discuss these actions while reflecting on past experiences with partnerships for accelerating renewables in other geographies and considering opportunities for similar platforms in the regions. After the workshop, IRENA would be happy to receive requests for country support, aimed at developing a national framework for a tripling strategy.

Meeting is closed, by invitation only.
