Pacific Small Island Developing States (SIDS) Decarbonization Forum

On 14-15 March 2024, the Pacific Small Islands Developing States (SIDS) Decarbonisation Forum was hosted by the Ministry of the Environment of Japan (MOEJ), the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) through the SIDS Lighthouses Initiative and the Green Climate Fund (GCF). The forum took place from 8:00 to 11:00 (UAE/UTC+4), 13:00 to 16:00 (Japan/UTC+9), and 16:00 to 19:00 (Fiji/UTC+12). Since 2015, MOEJ and IRENA have led a series of workshops dedicated to strengthening renewable energy deployment in SIDS, strengthening local and regional capacity to access climate finance and sharing best practices, lessons learned and innovative energy transition solutions. Expanding on these efforts, this virtual forum shone a light on climate actions in small islands, showcasing various tailored solutions and technology options to address the distinctive challenges and opportunities of SIDS. Beyond offering updated insights into climate financing, the event aimed to foster collaboration with broader partners, including Japanese islands, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
