IRENA at the Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue 2024
From 19 to 20 March, the energy sector stakeholders came together at the Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue (BETD) to advance the energy transition and tackle its most pressing challenges.
BETD provides a leading international forum for high-level representatives from governments, industry, science and civil society to share their experiences and ideas on a safe, affordable and environmentally responsible global energy transition.
This year, IRENA unveiled a World Energy Transitions Outlook brief titled Tracking COP28 Outcomes: Tripling Renewable Power Capacity by 2030, which discusses systemic and structural barriers to the energy transition; outlines key enablers to tripling renewable power and doubling energy efficiency; and provides a set of indicators for tracking the progress to achieving the 2030 tripling target.
IRENA Director-General, Francesco La Camera presented the highlights from the brief at the high-level panel “A Global Renewables & Energy Efficiency Target – Commitment to Action”.
The session focused on how the tripling renewable power capacity and doubling energy efficiency target set at COP28 can be achieved through concrete actions. The panelists also discussed the current state of the global energy transition and highlight existing opportunities and challenges in countries and regions around the globe.
