Panamá Energy Sector: Climate Change Adaptation Challenges and Measures

The Government of Panamá developed an Energy Transition Agenda that was approved in November 2020, with the aim of increasing the utilization of renewable energy resources in the country and develop better and modern transmission and distribution of electricity to promote socio economic development of urban and rural communities.

As part of the implementation of the Agenda, the National Secretary of Energy is developing a National Climate Plan for the Energy Sector, and this document is the result of a request to IRENA for assistance. The report “Panamá Energy Sector: Climate Change Adaptation Challenges and Measures”, identifies adaptation measures aimed at mitigating potential damages and increasing the resilience of Panama's energy infrastructure as determined by the assessment of climate risk, as well as the implications of long-term changes in precipitation and temperature.

The event was by invitation only.
