IRENA at the Africa Climate Summit
The Africa Climate Summit is a high-level congregation of African heads of State and Governments focused on climate change co-convened with the Global Center on Adaptation, and organised in collaboration with the African Union Commission and the African Development Bank. This significant event was held in Nairobi from 4-6 September 2023, creating a powerful platform for collaboration and progress. The Summit focused on delivering innovative green growth and climate finance solutions for Africa and the world, six crucial thematic areas were explored: climate finance, mitigation and green growth, climate adaptation and resilience, loss and damage, climate-vulnerable groups, and research innovation and technology. These focused discussions paved the way for tangible solutions and actions.

Driving Green Growth & Climate Finance Solutions for Africa and The World: Legislative Pathways
During this crucial gathering, parliamentarians received, scrutinised, and engaged in extensive debates to extract and refine strategies for robust parliamentary oversight and in the identification of capacity-building gaps that necessitate attention to achieve sustained and impactful climate action throughout the Continent. By doing so, the continent can demonstrate its resolve to effect meaningful change and fulfil its commitments to combat the pressing climate challenges facing our planet.

Youth-led acceleration of Just Energy transition & resilience in Africa
This event aimed to raise awareness and build capacities of African youth climate practitioners, entrepreneurs and activists in the field of Just energy transition and building resilience. The session started the discussion on a couple of policy case studies tackling Just energy transition and building resilience in African communities, cities, or countries, and challenge the youth participants to work on policy recommendation and climate action in the respective local community. A roundtable discussion was hosted with parties, experts and young advocates to discuss in depth challenges and opportunities in the just energy transition and building resilience in Africa. The event empowered youth to get their voices heard through policy recommendations and climate action mechanisms being heard by party and non-party stakeholders as well as policy makers and decision makers from local perspectives.
