Empowering Lives and Livelihoods – Renewables for Adaptation

IRENA and the COP28 Presidency UAE organised an event to profile and increase awareness of the ‘Empowering Lives and Livelihoods – Renewables for Adaptation’ initiative at the Spanish International Renewable Energy Conference.

Empowering Lives and Livelihoods, a COP28 initiative, is an IRENA multi-stakeholder partnership to commit USD 1 billion towards renewables for adaptation to connect people and livelihoods through renewable solutions in agri-food and health sectors in LDCs and SIDS.

The initiative targets to provide funding for programmatic support to governments and for innovative solutions aiming to strengthen value chains in the agri-food and health sectors, with a special focus on gender and inclusion. IRENA and the UAE invited governments, particularly women leaders and champions from philanthropy, foundations, trusts, charitable funds and businesses in climate, renewables and sustainability, to be an integral part of the year-long campaign towards COP28.
