ASEAN – IRENA Consultation Workshop
In conjunction of the ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting (AMEM) at Singapore in October 2018, ASEAN and IRENA signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to support the realisation of ASEAN Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation (APAEC) and to facilitate the scaling up of renewables in the region.
Key priorities to implement the MoU, as outlined in the Action Plan, have been identified as: energy planning; development of a regional renewable energy roadmap; policy and regulatory frameworks to support renewable energy deployment; capacity building on renewable energy-related topics; and renewable energy technology, innovation, and financing.
Hosted by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of Indonesia, IRENA and the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) organised a virtual workshop with Renewable Energy – Subsector Network (RE-SSN) Focal Points from 10 ASEAN Member States. The aim of the workshop was to bring together experts from AMS to discuss with IRENA and ACE on achievements in 2021 and on-going activities, discuss results and path towards finalisation, as well as identify priorities for 2023, including in supporting the APAEC Phase II and regional renewable energy priorities.
The 10 countries included in the regional initiative are: Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
