Workshop on Design of Policies to Achieve Targets and Maximise Socio-Economic Benefits in Albania

With a share of renewable energy in gross final energy consumption of almost 35%, mainly from hydropower, Albania has made commitments towards developing other renewable energy sources, including solar, wind, biomass and geothermal, to decarbonise all end-use sectors. In 2021, Albania submitted to Energy Community its national Energy and Climate Plan, and the enhanced NDC. In this context, IRENA is organising a workshop on design of policies to achieve targets and maximise socio-economic benefits in Albania to support the country in its next steps and turn this commitment into reality.

IRENA’s workshop on Renewable energy targets and policy frameworks aims to provide capacity building to support the design of renewable energy targets and policy frameworks to help define and achieve the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) in Albania. The workshop is funded through the NDC Partnership’s Climate Action Enhancement Package (CAEP).

Objective

This workshop covered four topics to provide assistance to Albania following the recommendations from IRENA’s RRA and the Southeast Europe regional market analysis, namely on renewable energy targets, socio-economic benefits, policies for end uses and sustainable bioenergy. The workshop will provide IRENA’s insights on the topics and share global best practices, focusing on the regional and local contexts.
