IRENA at 11th Clean Energy Ministerial and 5th Mission Innovation Ministerial
Ahead of the annual back-to-back meetings of 11th Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM11) on 22 September and 5th Mission Innovation Ministerial (MI-5) on 23 September hosted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, a series of virtual, open to public side-events took place on key energy topics. IRENA organised and participated in the following events:

Raising global climate ambition in uncertain times with long-term energy scenario
This open event sought to discuss how mid- and long-term energy scenarios (LTES) can aid policymakers to navigate through disruptive events and help guide short-term decision making. It was hosted by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and featured the CEM campaign on “Long-term Energy Scenario for the Clean Energy Transition” (LTES Campaign).
21 September | 16:00 – 17:30 UTC+3
Passing the tipping point: the next decade of clean energy cooperation
The high-level event discussed how outcome-orientated international cooperation over the next decade can accelerate real-world transitions across different sectors of the global economy. The event set out the UK’s COP26 Presidency vision, and with reference to historic examples of success and case studies, speakers demonstrated the value of countries coming together behind cooperative action to fast-track global energy systems transitions. Prior to the important discussions at the 11th Clean Energy Ministerial and 5th Mission Innovation Ministerial, this event highlighted the importance of clean energy innovation and deployment to achieving a sustainable, resilient and affordable clean energy future, and to meeting climate goals.
