Joint IRENA – JRC Expert Workshop on “Benchmarking Long-Term Scenario Comparison Studies for the Clean Energy Transition”

The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), in collaboration with the Knowledge for the Energy Union Unit of the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission, organized a two-day virtual workshop on ‘Benchmarking long-term scenario comparison studies for the clean energy transition’, on September 10th and 11th, 2020.

The aim of the workshop was to exchange experience on long-term energy scenario comparison studies, in a bid to map the motivation, the focus and the methods of such studies. Discussions were held on how scenario comparison results and insights could be employed for policymaking in the context of the clean energy transition.

Over 20 experts from technical institutions, international organizations, academia and the private sector joined the event. The event was viewed by over 400 attendees from 90 different countries.

This virtual event built on the rich discussions being held under the umbrella of the Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM) Campaign on Long-term Scenarios for the Energy Transition (LTES Campaign) and the recently published study by the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission on “Towards net-zero emissions in the EU energy system - Insights from scenarios in line with the 2030 and 2050 ambitions of the European Green Deal”.
