COP26 Climate Dialogue with ASEAN

On 24 – 25 September 2020, the UK COP26 Presidency, in collaboration with the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), hosted a virtual COP26 Climate Dialogue with ASEAN on Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and Long-Term Strategies (LTS).

The COP26 Climate Dialogue with ASEAN offered a forum for senior government officials from all ASEAN Member States to share their experiences in meeting and enhancing the climate pledges through NDC enhancement and implementation. The dialogue also focused on inputs from experts and practitioners in developing the long-term climate strategies (LTS) and exchanged lessons learned with other ASEAN Member States. The idea was to promote cross-regional discussion on driving and building momentum on climate action in the lead up to COP26, through enhanced NDCs and developing LTS, and exploring in particular the vital role these play in ASEAN countries’ economic recoveries from COVID19.

Sessions:

  • Session 1 (24 September, 3-6pm GMT+8): Developing and Enhancing NDCs in ASEAN countries to meet the Paris Agreement
  • Session 2 (25 September, 3-6pm GMT+8): Setting long term low emissions development strategies in support to the Paris Agreement goals

The event featured a strong set of organisations that are working on NDCs and LTS across the ASEAN region, including IRENA, NDC Partnership, ADB, and 2050 Pathway Platform.

This Dialogue was a ‘by invitation only’ event for senior officials in the 10 ASEAN Member States who are in charge of NDCs, LTS, and climate change policy directions. A detailed agenda and registration details was circulated directly to invitees.
