Global Launch of Tracking SDG 7: The Energy Progress Report

The health and humanitarian crisis set off by the COVID-19 pandemic underscores the importance of access to sustainable energy. Published annually by IEA, IRENA, UNSD, World Bank and WHO, Tracking SDG 7: The Energy Progress Report provides the most comprehensive look available at the world’s progress towards global energy targets on access to electricity, clean cooking, renewable energy and energy efficiency. This year’s report presents policymakers and development partners with global, regional and country-level data to inform decisions and identify priorities for a resilient recovery that scales up sustainable and modern energy post COVID-19.

This high-level event hosted by United Nations Group of Friends of Sustainable Energy (Norway, Denmark, Ethiopia and Pakistan) and supported by SDG 7 custodians agencies, presented findings of the report as well as of the Policy Briefs by the SDG 7 Technical Advisory Group. Discussions informed the upcoming High Level Political Forum, the Decade of Action to deliver the SDGs, the implementation of the UN Decade of Sustainable Energy for All 2014-2024.
