AMEM and UN Asia Pacific Climate Week

From 2 - 6 September, in addition to Innovation Day in Thailand, IRENA took part in two international events in Bangkok: The ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting (AMEM) and the UN's Asia-Pacific Climate Week.

4 September - AMEM

IRENA’s Director-General Francesco La Camera spoke at the ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting (AMEM). The ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting (AMEM) saw ministers and senior representatives from across the regional energy landscape gather to discuss ASEAN’s energy outlook and enhanced collaboration between countries in the journey towards greater interconnectivity and grid integration.

5 September - Asia-Pacific Climate Week

IRENA also participated at the UN’s Asia Pacific Climate Week which took place from 2-6 September, also in Bangkok, Thailand. Two days of the Regional Climate Weeks were dedicated to technical dialogues on the implementation of the climate commitments or 'Nationally Determined Contributions' (NDCs). These technical NDC dialogues, running since 2014, have been organised by the UN Development Programme (UNDP) and UN Climate Change (UNFCCC) Secretariat to help countries plan and implement their climate commitments. On 5 September, IRENA led the breakout group for NDC Dialogue on “Energy Transition” and organised a side event on innovation.
