Regional Forum on Sustainable Energy in the Indian Ocean islands

Following the success of the SIDS Lighthouses Initiative workshop on renewable energy project development and financing in the Indian Ocean Islands in 2018, IRENA co-organised the Regional Forum on Sustainable Energy in the Indian Ocean islands.

A regional platform on sustainable development at the intersection of government, technology, and innovation, the forum aimed to drive the implementation of the Samoa Pathway priority areas and SDGs in the Indian Ocean. The theme of the event included renewable energy and energy efficiency, targeting professionals from SIDS Governments, private sector, academia at the regional level from Seychelles, Madagascar, Mauritius, Comoros and Réunion.

IRENA helped identify and prioritise SIDS-specific renewable energy solutions for the region, and obtained valuable feedback on its ongoing work on climate resilience for the Navigator SIDS Module.
