Mobilising Institutional Capital for Renewable Energy - Roundtable in Asia
IRENA and Norton Rose Fulbright jointly hosted an interactive roundtable discussion on “Mobilising Institutional Capital for Renewable Energy - The Investors’ Perspective”.
Building on the findings from IRENA’s 2016 publication “Unlocking renewable energy investment: the role of risk mitigation and structured finance”, which highlighted the need to attract institutional investors to the sector, IRENA conducted a follow-up study with the objective of providing feedback and practical recommendations to governments, other policy makers and industry stakeholders.
As part of the Agency’s efforts to better understand the investment landscape, status and practices of institutional investors, as well as main barriers they face in the renewables sector, IRENA carried out a series of roundtables to obtain direct input from key players in this field. Following the first such roundtable held earlier this month in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, IRENA’s second roundtable in Singapore focused on the South-Asian market and practical ways in which investment capital can be scaled up in renewable energy in this region.
Roundtable participants included Asia-based institutional investors, asset managers, project developers, advisers and representatives of public finance institutions.
Input from the roundtable was aggregated, analysed and fed into recommendations of IRENA’s report “Mobilising institutional capital for renewable energy”.
