Global Renewable Energy Outlook, IRENA roundtable at the World Scientific and Engineering Congress
The World Scientific and Engineering Congress (WSEC) was held from 19-20 June 2017 as part of EXPO 2017, which has the theme of “Future Energy”. The focus of the WSEC was “Energy of the Future: Innovative scenarios and implementation methods”. In support of EXPO 2017 and the WSEC, IRENA organized a roundtable covering “REmap: Global Renewable Energy Outlook”.
The IRENA roundtable consisted of two sessions, which included presentations from subject matter experts, questions from the audience and discussions with the presenters moderated by Dolf Gielen, Director IRENA Innovation and Technology Centre. The topic of each session along with the available presentations are given below. The roundtable agenda is available via this link.
Session 1: “REmap: Global Energy Transition Prospects and the Role of Renewables”. The session discussed different angles on the opportunities and challenges of renewable energy use and development as part of the global energy transition. The session reflected perspectives of different actors in the global energy sector, including government, academia, climate policy and business development.

The session presented the renewable energy experiences and prospects in specific countries (including results of country analysis developed with IRENA) and shared lessons learned and outlooks on how new and emerging markets can promote and benefit from renewable energy uptake and from regional integration of energy markets.
