Kick-Off meeting for the implementation of the capacity Building activities under the West Africa Clean Energy Corridor (WACEC)
The action plan of the West Africa Clean Energy Corridor was endorsed by the ECOWAS Energy Ministerial in December 2016 in Conakry and in June 2017, by the Summit of Heads of State and Governments of ECOWAS through a regulation calling for its implementation by all the Member States.
Moving forward with the implementation of the action plan, IRENA, in consultation with the relevant stakeholders of the ECOWAS power sector (ECREEE, WAPP, ERERA and GIZ), has initiated a set of tailor-made capacity-building activities. These activities cover the areas of the development of bankable PPAs for renewable power procurement, as well as the management of power grids with higher shares of variable renewable power.
With the participation of all relevant implementation partners, this kick-off meeting served as a platform to further detail the scope of activities. It also aimed to clarify and agree on the roles of different partners during the project implementation as well as to provide a preliminary guidance to the consulting teams to facilitate the implementation in line with the expectations of all partners involved.
