Planning and Operating the Electricity System with High Shares of Variable Renewables: Technical Experts Workshop

The government of Cuba requested IRENA to facilitate a technical workshop on the approaches to operate and plan electricity systems with high shares of variable renewables.

The objective of the 3-day technical workshop was to facilitate peer-to-peer knowledge exchange between technical experts in Cuba and internationally experienced network planners and operators, in order to identify the key technical aspects necessary to reliably operate the electricity grid of the island with high shares of renewables.

The target audience comprised of 20 technical experts from the planning office of Ministry of Energy and Mines of Cuba and power system operator UNE.
