Workshop on Powering Healthcare
A regional workshop on Innovations and Lessons Learned in Decentralized Renewable Energy Solutions for Health Facilities
IRENA, along with the United Nations Foundation (UNF) and the World Health Organization (WHO), co-hosted a regional workshop on powering healthcare. The workshop, in providing the needed platform for cross-sectoral participation of key stakeholders from the health and energy sectors including government agencies, showcased the need for electricity, to improve services in rural health clinics not connected to the grid or with limited supply. Existing best practices with sustainable business models showed improved statistics in reducing maternity and child mortality. The two-day deliberations helped identify sustainable delivery mechanisms for energy provision and the required capacity building activities to enable decentralised energy solutions for health care facilities in eastern and western Africa.
