High-level meeting of the Africa Clean Energy Corridor (ACEC) Consultative Forum
The meeting co-organised by IRENA, AUC and NEPAD facilitated a strategic policy dialogue between key decision makers from governments, regional bodies, project practitioners and development partners to enhance policy coherence and strengthen the understanding of and engagement in the implementation of the Africa Clean Energy Corridor (ACEC) with this event.
Participants had the opportunity to obtain up-to-date information on the implementation status of the ACEC and exchange views on the key outcomes of the initiative for announcement at the COP 21 in Paris. It also focused on discussions on how the enabling work undertaken through the implementation of the Action Agenda thus far can be used to mobilise concrete investments into the ACEC based on: prioritisation of high resource zones, projects based on the ACEC zoning results and project facilitation through IRENA’s Sustainable Energy Marketplace.
The meeting was held in the form of an open roundtable discussion with high-level participation from key stakeholders. Furthermore, ministers from ACEC countries have welcomed the expansion of ACEC to West Africa, highlighted the impacts of IRENA work in general and ACEC activities in their respective countries and urged the regional institutions (AUC and NEPAD) to support the implementation of some of ACEC activities (zoning, planning and regulatory work) in other African countries. The meeting was concluded by a brief introduction on the REmap Africa 2030 report to be launched the next day.
