The 21st Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP21)

IRENA participated at the 21st Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate change (COP21) in Paris. Notably, IRENA was called upon by France to lead climate action on renewable energy in the context of the Lima – Paris Action Agenda (LPAA). IRENA led two major events on renewable energy. On Sunday 6 December, around 1000 participants joined liv e and via webcast for the RE-Energising the Future high-level event featuring renewable energy solutions, innovations and actions, co-organised with the European Commission, REN21, SER, and the UAE. On Monday 7 December, The LPAA Energy Day took place on 7 December, a full-day programme featuring announcements on new initiatives, targets and alliances to further the worldwide transition to renewable energy. During the two-week period, IRENA also hosted events on the Global Geothermal Alliance, the Sustainable Energy Marketplace, the SIDS Lighthouses Initiative, the Africa Clean Energy Corridor and renewable energy in the MENA region.
