Consultative Workshop on Renewable Energy Developments in the Pacific
This three-day consultative workshop, which was jointly organised by IRENA, the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) and the South Pacific Tourism Organization (SPTO), featured the launch of the Renewables Readiness Assessment for Fiji. Participants will also discuss geothermal and renewable energy developments in the tourism sector of the Pacific in the context of increasing the uptake of renewable energy. The targeted audiences are the Pacific Island countries, development partners and key stakeholders in the geothermal and tourism sector.
The major outcomes of the workshop were:
- Collation of best practices of renewable energy technologies in the tourism sector from 8 countries
- Collaboration with Pacific Islands Countries and Territories (PICTs) and the Pacific Community (SPC) on geothermal development under the Global Geothermal Alliance
- Launch of the renewable readiness assessment (RRA) reports for Fiji, Marshall Islands and Vanuatu and discussions on implementing recommendations with the countries and development partners.
