The True Cost of Renewables: Asia’s untapped economic potential
With economics at the heart of the debate about the role that renewables will play in our future energy mix, the lack of up-to-date, accurate, reliable data on the cost and performance of renewable energy technologies remains a significant barrier to their uptake. IRENA, aiming to fill this gap, analyses the costs and performance of renewable energy technologies, releasing ground-breaking new work in this area since 2012. The implications are important for Asia, where the increasing competitiveness of renewables has changed the energy market landscape. IRENA’s roundtable discussion at Singapore Energy Week 2014 brought together experts to discuss some of the key questions surrounding the cost-competiveness of renewables and how this could shape the future energy mix.
