Expert Workshop on IRENA’s Global Renewable Energy Roadmap
The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) organised its annual workshop to discuss the progress and key insights from REmap 2030, the global roadmap to double the share of renewables in the energy mix. The workshop is a crucial component of IRENA’s engagement with countries and other stakeholders that have contributed to the development of REmap 2030.
The one-day workshop which took place on the day following IRENA’s 8th Council, brought together more than 30 experts engaged in the process from 19 countries.
The workshop allowed a discussion of the progress and key insights, and provided vital input for the preparation of the next REmap 2030 report to be launched end of 2015. The workshop also helped to detail in greater depth the country engagement process, contribute to the development of country action agendas and also shape IRENA’s new projects around other REmap 2030 activities, including Action Teams that are in the process of being formed.
In preparation, IRENA shared the draft comprehensive country reports of the first three REmap countries, China, United Arab Emirates and the United States as well as a background note.
The meeting was divided into five sections: (i) country engagement process in REmap 2030 and country findings from the comprehensive country reports, (ii) development of country action agendas, (iii) towards the 2nd edition of REmap, (iv) socio-economic findings for REmap 2030 and (v) action teams.
Workshop proceedings are available [here].
Based on this feedback, IRENA is working on additional country reports, expanding the country scope of REmap, forming the Action Teams and working on an outline of its 2nd edition of the REmap 2030 roadmap.
