UNFCCC-ADP Technical Expert Meeting on Renewable Energy

The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) took part in a key global climate change meeting in March, highlighting the crucial importance of renewables to mitigate greenhouse-gas emissions. The Ad Hoc Working Group on the Durban Platform for Enhanced Action (ADP), formed under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), held the Technical Expert Meeting in Bonn, Germany to highlight the opportunity presented by renewable energy deployment.

IRENA presented its work on issues related to climate change on the opening day of the ADP meeting, which took place on 10-14 March.

The presentation by Dolf Gielen, director of the IRENA Innovation and Technology Centre, focused on the global status of renewable energy deployment, major opportunities yet to be realised, the current policy landscape, and the effectiveness and potential of initiatives underway. Mr Gielen’s presentation can be downloaded here. For more information about REmap 2030 – IRENA’s Global Renewable Energy Roadmap – please visit www.irena.org/remap or contact: remap@irena.org

IRENA also presented its ongoing initiatives to accelerate the adoption of renewables, underscoring the contribution of renewable energy to climate change mitigation, as well as outlining the challenges of financing renewable energy projects.
